"There's a crack in everything"

"There's a crack in everything"

There are days when I wake up, fire up my newsfeeds and my running playlists and hope for a glimmer of hope. Every once in a while, unfortunately, not all that frequently, I come up with something. Today, it was this song by Leonard Cohen.

The first time I heard it I sat in stunned silence and it became on of my all-time favorites when I need a little morale boost. I can't listen to it with my throat tightening.

This verse and chorus just nailed me today.

I can't run no more
With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

This live version has a warmth that the album lack, I think. As he sings these lyrics you know he has something or someone in mind. And the background singers etherial "Ring, ring, ring" just hammer home that, yes, just maybe, there is or will be soon, a crack where the light can get in.

Blessings to you all and may we soon find, or even make, a crack for the light! And may each of us find a way to be a thunder cloud for those killers in high places.
